Dear Northeast Kingdom Trails Hiker
You are invited to attend a Potluck Dinner and Informational
Meeting with fellow GMC members who are interested in forming
a new Green Mountain Club Section to be named the Northeast
Kingdom Section. Anyone may attend, whether or not they are
currently a GMC member.
Bring your family and friends and meet other trail hikers
and supporters as we make plans to participate in the formation
of hiking trails on the former Champion Lands, as well as
maintenance on other Northeast Kingdom trails and of course,
hikes, year-round outings, and future potlucks and picnics.
Our new section will be responsible for providing and promoting
public input into trail creation and maintenance, and will
also be a resource for the existing state parks and forests
trails, as well as the new Nulhegan Basin division of the
Conte Wildlife Refuge. As these trails get more organized,
we may also take on specific maintenance responsibilities.
We expect to have a fresh group of people to meet, most of
whom have been hiking these lands on their own. By pooling
our energy and enthusiasm, we can help shape our resources
and protect them as tourism develops in our area. Children
are welcome — what we share with them now will be our
continued trail legacy.
Anyone who attends the meeting and who joins the Green Mountain
Club before August 1, 2000, will be considered a founding
member of GMC Northeast Kingdom!
