26,000 acres in the Nulhegan Basin has now been conveyed to
the US Fish and Wildlife Service as part of the federal Silvio
O. Conte National Wildlife Refuge. This land includes Vermonts
largest deer wintering areas, important other wildlife habitat,
natural areas and recreational areas...

This property contains numerous lakes, wetlands and natural
areas, and is encumbered by a conservation easement held by
The Nature Conservancy of Vermont.
TCF has resold approximately 84,000 acres of land to a group
of investors headed by Wil Merck of Hamilton, Massachusetts
and Peacham, Vermont. The property is subject to permanent
working forest and public access easements to ensure that
forest products will be harvested in a sustainable manner
and that the public will continue to enjoy access to the land
for hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and other traditional recreational
pursuits. The working forest easement is held by the Vermont

Public recreational use of the lands include hunting, fishing,
hiking, canoeing, kayaking, boating, biking, snowmobiling,
cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Traditional public
access to these lands will continue.
